The Years of Loving You by Ella Harper

Time…it is a funny thing. Some days can go so slow you are literally watching each minute go by on the clock while other times you blink and time has gone. As the saying goes…time flies when you are having fun.

But what about when you are in love and for some reason the timing is just never quite right. Boy meets girl, they fall in love and they make a future for themselves. That’s the way the story usually goes. But what if boy meets girl they fall in love but life gets in the way or then girl meets someone else or boy meets someone else and the years go by and over the years their paths will cross but never quite at the right time.

For Molly and Edison this is exactly what happened. They knew it was love the first day they met but life had other ideas for them. That love never went though. It stayed with them both throughout the years. The kind of love that can make you loose yourself both physically and mentally. The type of love that when something good happens you want to tell that person first and when shit hits the fan you still want to tell that person first. The one who as soon as a text comes through on your phone or you hear their voice you smile to yourself. And I know as you are reading this you are smiling to yourself thinking of that person.

And why shouldn’t you…love is an amazing feeling knowing there is that one person who makes you feel like no one else and this feeling shouldn’t just be when life is a bed of roses but also when tough times hit. When all you want to do is curl up in a ball after a crap day or when you physically or mentally can’t move that’s when real love shows because that’s when that person steps up. They carry you when you are ready to give up the fight. And I get it…somedays it’s easier to throw in the towel then put up the fight.

The Taj Mahal is often described as one of the wonders of the world and this was built out of love after the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan built it as a mausoleum for his wife Mumtaz who died in childbirth. Whilst I’m not expecting world monuments to be popping up all over the place I would say love isn’t worth giving up on. Edison vowed to stay with Molly through it all even knowing the future could show a bleak time ahead because he believed what they had was worth fighting for.

So if you have a love you believe is worth fighting for or a love that makes you smile when you get that text then hold on to it. I can’t promise the ride will be smooth and that there won’t be bumps in the road but I can promise you that whether it’s the way they smile at you, the fact they know the right thing to say or the way their grey eyes crease up when they smile that will make it worth it. Because as Edison said to Molly “Never let each other go”.

“I’m in love with you. I want you in my life. You are the only thing that matters and you have always made me better. I am better with you and beside you. We have everything in front of us. A lifetime together, I hope. If you’ll have me. I’m ready for you and I mean that. We are going to have that thing everyone talks about, that indescribable, indefinable thing that everyone wants to find. And we have found it, Molls, because we have found one another. And that means we should never let each other go. Right? So let’s do that. Never let each other go.”
